I remember when I completely savored all the year-end-wrap-ups. I used to save lists of the top songs, movies, events. There’s probably a box of those clippings somewhere in a box in the basement. After a couple decades, I guess I just got bored with it all or maybe I just like to look forward instead of back. I struggled a bit when trying to remember what happened in 2007 and am just going to go ahead and start a random list of personal highlights and memories, clearly in no particular order or category……

  • My iPhone – greatest. invention. ever.
  • The Aquadots recall weeks after my son fell in love with the damn things. Date rape drug?! C’mon!
  • Britney – she was like a gift that just kept giving and giving all year long
  • Red Sox winning the world series AGAIN
  • Netflix – how on earth did I live without this until this year??
  • Oscar Blandi dry shampoo – this stuff saves hours of washing and drying your hair
  • Weeds, Friday Night Lights, The Riches, Rock Of Love, Ace of Cakes
  • Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Icky Thump, Matt Pond PA
  • Spider pig, spider pig does whatever a spider pig does

Rescue Me December 31, 2007

I’ve just spent the last 5 hours going from window to window in my house watching what I first thought was our neighbor’s house burning down.  Turned out to be “just” the garage.   But let me  tell you, there were at least six fire trucks, countless cops, an ambulance and then some.  They shut down traffic for the entire block.  We could see flames from time to time from our third floor, but for the most part, just thick billowing black smoke.   The first truck arrived around 8:30 AM and it’s 2:00 now and they are just rolling up the last of the hose and a new truck has just arrived that I’m guessing is the investigative team.  (clearly I watch too much TV)  I still can’t believe it was “just” a garage.   I appears no one was hurt and it’s finally out.  It was really something to see.   Update…  The story was in the paper today.  Turned out to be a carriage house, not a garage.  The owner was home, but it was firefighters at a nearby station that spotted the smoke and were the first to respond. fire

Jessie’s Girl December 29, 2007

I’ll admit when I opened one of my Christmas presents to find a book about the song “Jessie’s Girl” (A Year In The Life Of A Working Class Dog), I was a bit skeptical.    I mean seriously.  An entire book about one song??   Don’t get me wrong, I loooove me some Rick Springfield, but I thought for sure it would be a bit more of a biography or career retrospective.  But guess what?  It was 95 pages about the song “Jessie’s Girl”.    Everything from the inspiration of the song (Randy’s girl) to the photo shoot of his dog for the cover (including his finding the shirt for Ron to wear at a big & tall store because he had an 18″ neck) to making the video for this AND “I’ve Done Everything For You” for a total of $3,000.   Oh, and a discussion of the best use ever of the word “moot” in a song.  They covered it all and interviewed everyone involved with the recording, the touring and promotion of the album and single.  Who knew?  I suppose every hit song has a similar story, but only a few have 95 pages worth.  So take 3 minutes and 14 seconds to go back 25 years to a time when songs started with a scratch of a needle hitting the vinyl….

How terrifying is it that for $49 someone can find out just about everything about you?   I was trying to track down a singer for something I was working on at work when I stumbled across this site: https://www.intelius.com/ I’m tempted to spend the money just to see what “they” have on me.  How sad is that?

Seriously, there is NOTHING on TV. I can’t wait for January 15th and the return of American Idol. Until then I guess I’ll watch DVDs of Dirt and Rescue Me. But life without new Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Friday Night Lights, etc. is just sad. (New FNL is on 1/4 – yahoo!) And will there ever be a new season of The Riches? And how freaking long will I have to wait for more Entourage or Weeds or Californication?? Do I have to start reading some of these books sitting next to me?? Maybe this is why I started blogging….

All are completely addictive and you will get sucked right in to each story line and won’t be able to get enough.  And if you’ve seen all of the above, try Action (w/ Jay Mohr) or The Riches.  If you’ve seen those too, we should be BFFs and you should just come over right now so we can hang out.

It’s December 26th.  Christmas is officially over.  I’ve spent the better part of the day trying to create a path through the new toys and empty boxes and wrapping paper just to get from the living room to the kitchen.   My mission for the next week is to organize/clean this house.  I’ve already got 3 bags of stuff in the front porch for VVA pick-up and I’m just getting started.  Do I really need an extra set of martini glasses that say “Peerless Mastering”??  If I ever get it together enough to have more than four martini drinkers over at one time, I deserve some new fancy ones.         Who will read this blog?   Possibly no one, but I was inspired by the Christmas letter from the Hopes and in case any one ever asks me, I can say “Why yes,  I do blog.  doesn’t everybody?”
