Manatee love, part 2 February 26, 2008

As you may have read in an earlier blog post, my son is obsessed with a stuffed manatee. This morning he had to teach him how to play Uno.

He’s been telling me he wants to bring “Hubert” to school. But there’s a rule that kids aren’t supposed to bring toys from home unless it’s for a specific project, event, etc. so I kept telling him no. But he kept insisting that Mrs. Collins said it was OK. I finally emailed his teacher today to ask her and, of course, Nash was telling the truth and she did say it was OK for him to bring it in. She thought it would be educational since some of the kids had never heard of a manatee. So tomorrow Hubert will be making a guest appearance at Nash’s school and, according to Nash, they are BOTH very excited!

I asked him what he was going to tell the class about manatees and here’s what he came up with.

Man, I love this kid.

Don’t these stylists communicate at least some of the basics to avoid things like this? And for the love of god, will someone please buy Cameron Diaz a comb?

While waiting for someone interesting to get their ass to the red carpet, I thought I would check out Yahoo’s most e-mailed photos of the week:

First we have a baby lemur. Awwwww.

Next, um, Angelina after a very big meal or perhaps baby #5 for Brangelina? You decide:

And of course the weird. Delicious grubs. Mmmmm…..

This is part of the new spring collection for Calvin Klein:

I see where’s he’s going with the neutral color, the clean simple lines, the popular (but almost always unflattering) high waisted trouser, etc. Nice. No complaints whatsoever.

But the print campaign is what I keep seeing and after seeing it for the third time, I simply have to comment:

Is that not the most gigantic camel toe you’ve ever seen???

We have this thing at work called “community forum”. It’s an e-mail group that you can subscribe to and it’s where you might list your apartment for rent, a car for sale, fundraising, etc. Occassionally people get silly and there is a thread of humorus comebacks. And once or twice a year, a good fight because a posting offended someone. And there are just the straight up idots that post things like this one just posted:

Does anyone want the rest of my toasted sesame seed bagel from Dunkin Donuts?

I was just craving someone’s cold, half eaten bagel that they’ve had their hands all over. Yum.

Everyone knows I can’t cook. And if I do, it needs to be something that can be prepared in 5 minutes or less during the week. 20 minutes on the weekends. You would be amazed at the variety of meals for Nash and I that I come up with during the week that meet the 5 minute rule. But my latest discovery has me so excited I just had to share. It’s Tyson steak strips.

These pre-cooked lightly seasoned strips of steak can be heated up on the stove if you have crazy extra time or microwaved for a mere 20 seconds. Then voila, they are ready for consumption. Nash eats them plain and I stir fry them up w/ some veggies or toss ‘em on a salad. Delicious. And only 3 Weight Watcher points per serving for those keeping track. For special occasions I’ve used these to whip up an easy beef stroganoff recipe (less than 20 minutes, I swear!) that I have that has received mad raves from the Mr. Leave a comment if you want it and I’ll send it to you. mmmmmm, meat.

I was just outside freezing my ass and hands off trying to capture a decent photo or video of the lunar eclipse. Why?? It’s the same damn moon some other guy was looking at his pics turned out a whole lot better than mine. Look at me. I’m just like Bai Ling all stealing shit…..

Mommy, I’m bored. February 18, 2008

Nash can usually entertain himself for days on end playing with Nascars and Power Rangers or watching TV. But today, the third day of a three day weekend, he hit his wall and said those three little words that I fear most – ‘Mommy, I’m bored’.

Now I have tons of craft project ideas ripped out of magazines and filed away and am pretty good about planned projects, but I was so not ready for this today. We made every puzzle and played every game from Don’t Spill The Beans to Candy Land yesterday so I knew I was in trouble. I got out the “craft box” and took a looksie at what I had to work with.

Sadly, this is what we came up with:

Pathetic, huh? But miraculously, it satisfied him. Now he wants to make a lemonade stand………

As you may know, I am fascinated with all things weather. So I thought I should report that the current temperature in Salem is 61 degrees.

Current temperature in Los Angeles, 57 degrees.

Battle Lake, -2.

Minneapolis, 4.

That’s weird.
