We’ve been in maximum relaxation mode for the better part of this vacation.  We go to bed early and sleep in late.  The first morning we were here Nash woke me up and said “Mom, it’s 8:15″.  I said “There’s no way it’s 8:15.  You haven’t slept until 8:15 in the six years  you’ve been alive.” (sad, but true) And guess what?  It was 8:15.  Even more blissful since we had gone to bed around 10:00 the night before.   Usually the big activity of the day involves floating in the lake on an air mattress.   With the exception of having to track and kill the occasional horsefly or mosquito, pretty damn chill.

But as blissful as all that is, girlfriend needed a little retail therapy!  So yesterday we headed to Fargo (yes, North Dakota).   Along the way we simply had to stop and visit the world’s largest prairie chicken (natch):

Then we picked up my cousin Lori (yes, the devil from day one) and the boys headed to the toy stores and the girls headed to a friend of a friends little boutique in downtown Fargo – Shannalee.   Shanna has tons of great stuff like cards, jewelry, beauty products, accessories and clothes by some of your favorite designers.  We spent a good chunk of time there and left with all sorts of goodies (including some Joe Bush denim for me!).  We had 5 minutes before we had to meet the boys for lunch so we went to this consignment store.  Lori found a really cute jean jacket for $10 and I found one for (I thought) $3.  So Lori is talking to one woman at one counter about the whole consign thing and I was going to just pay for both with the other lady at another counter just to speed things up.  I thought the grand total was going to be $13 so I pulled out a $20.  I was checking my voicemail and looking out the window for my boys and not so much paying attention to the whole transaction.  I took my change and we headed out to meet the boys for lunch.  Once we sat down at the Hotel Donaldson, I looked at my receipt.  Apparently my jean jacket was $15, making the total on the receipt $26.50 with tax.  I gave her $20.  She gave me $6.50 back.  Not so bright in the big city.  But really, I would never have paid $15 so it worked out perfectly for me.  Not so much for cashier lady whose boss will have to explain that (6.50) on the receipt means the customer still owes that much.  Anyhoo, lunch was fab and then we parted ways and headed back to the lake, but not before stopping for a nice refreshing propane shower……
